Timers

Interval Timer

Automatically switch between active and rest phases without constantly checking the clock.

The Interval Timer guides repeated active and rest phases, which makes it better for rhythm-based work than a single countdown.

What the Interval Timer is

The Interval Timer automatically alternates between active phases and rest phases. It is designed for repeated cycles rather than one continuous countdown.

You choose work time, break time and rounds. TimerMood then guides the sequence and shows the current phase, so you do not have to restart each segment manually.

How the Interval Timer works

  1. 1Set the length of the active phase.
  2. 2Set the rest or recovery phase between rounds.
  3. 3Choose the number of rounds and start the timer.
  4. 4Follow the phase label and optional sound cues until the final round ends.

When to use this timer

  • When several rounds should run automatically.
  • When you do not want to click at every phase change during movement or repetition.
  • When work and rest need to stay clearly separated.

Who should use this timer

  • People structuring workouts, HIIT blocks or mobility routines.
  • Anyone practicing breathwork, rehab exercises or repeated drills.
  • Learners who prefer short repetition sets with small resets between them.

Practical examples

  • Eight rounds of 45 seconds active and 15 seconds rest for a compact workout.
  • Six rounds of 60 seconds breathing focus and 30 seconds quiet recovery.
  • Ten short flashcard sets with small breaks between attempts.

Benefits

  • Phase changes happen automatically, so your hands can stay free.
  • Rounds make progress visible without a separate checklist.
  • The rhythm can be tuned for training, studying or simple routines.

Limitations

  • Complex workout plans with many unique exercises may need a specialized training app.
  • The timer does not evaluate intensity, form or medical suitability.
  • For one meeting segment or one task block, a Countdown Timer is faster to set up.

Recommended settings

  • 45/15 for compact active blocks with short rests.
  • 60/30 for technique practice, mobility or breathing exercises.
  • Circular progress with sound when you cannot watch the screen continuously.

Customization ideas

  • Use stronger accent colors for visible phase changes during movement.
  • Raise volume only enough for the cue to be clear without becoming disruptive.
  • Choose Focus card when round and phase matter more than decorative progress.

Recommended setups

Study setup

10 rounds, 60/20, gentle sound and Focus card for flashcards.

Work setup

6 rounds, 5/1 minutes, circular progress and restrained colors.

Relaxed setup

60/30, glow background, low volume and soft buttons.

Fullscreen setup

45/15, large display, Immersive mode and a visible accent.

Tips for better intervals

  • Try new intervals with fewer rounds before increasing the load.
  • Use a sound cue if you cannot watch the screen during the activity.
  • Keep the numbers easy to remember so the rhythm feels natural.

Privacy note

Interval values and design options are stored only locally. TimerMood does not collect training data and is not a tracking system.

FAQ

Can I set work and rest separately?

Yes. Work duration and break duration are independent settings.

Is this timer suitable for HIIT?

Yes. Short effort and recovery phases are one of the main use cases.

Can I use it for breathing exercises?

Yes. Choose slower intervals, a minimal display and a gentle sound if needed.

What happens after the final round?

The timer stops at zero and can signal completion with your selected sound.

When is the Study Timer a better choice?

Use the Study Timer for longer learning blocks where the goal is sustained concentration rather than repeated short cycles.

Is the Interval Timer only for workouts?

No. It also works for breathing exercises, study repetitions, rehab routines and short work cycles.
